This year marks my 25th year as a maker of jewelry. Repetition and tactility remain at the forefront of thought when making. My most recent interest is utilizing twisted silver wire, similar to the way yarn fibers twist when made, and soldering it with fine 18k gold. This work speaks of connection, repetition, time, and patience. Each are rooted deeply in my practice and in life.
I was assigned a poem by John Keats to his love and fiancé, Franny Brawne. Not long after Keats gifted Franny a garnet and gold ring, he fled to Rome in the winter of 1820, in hopes to cure his tuberculosis and give him a longer lease in life. In this work, I fabricated a star holding a garnet to represent the star-crossed lovers, as well a hand woven fine silver Roman chain, to represent where Keats fled to heal and get back to his beloved Franny, but sadly, died shortly after arriving in Rome in February, 1821.
