Artist Statement

The body of work she is presenting here is BIOPHILIA and it explores our relationship with nature. According to a theory by the biologist E. O. Wilson, we humans have an innate and genetically determined affinity with the natural world and spending time in nature improves our mental and spiritual health.

Consequently, by creating this biomorphic series, soaked with ear thly colours and textures, she is focusing on the healing power of nature. Her intention is to encourage people to interact with the pieces and so she has developed a very unique technique with which she tranforms silicone into little petals and moss like surfaces with a soft feel and a flexible quality. It is certainly a very stimulating collection and it invites us to touch it and on doing so redefine our bond with nature so we can nourish our body and mind while realising what a precious gift nature is.

Artist bio:
Bego Fuente is a contemporary jewelry artist based in San Sebastián, Spain. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in English Philology and a Certificate of Higher Education in Graphic Design and Interactive Media.
It was not until years later - when she discovered metalsmithing - that she realised she neeeded to go back to working with her hands. She studied to obtain a Metalsmith Degree and started to develop her passion for it.

She was instantly enchanted by the endless possibilities jewelry opened for her. She could now feel free to explore, mix and combine materials in order to create wearable art to connect emotionally with the wearer. She is a very curious designer and maker and her jewelry is a reflection of herself. She is bold, impulsive, playful and sensitive and she works in a very intuitive way always open to experimentation. For her it's all about the emotions evoked and she wants to provoke the viewer wearer by creating unique bold pieces full of textures and vibrant colors.
During her career Bego has participated in several juried exhibitions around the world and her work has been showcased in major international shows including Beijing International Jewelry Art Exhibition in China, Venice Design Week Jewelry Selection, Collectiva Meeting In Porto and Tincal Lab Challenge 2021. She was also the

International Award Winner at the 3rd edition of the FIO contest in Brasil in 2022 and participated at Sieraad jewelry Fair in Amsterdam in 2023
