Artist Statement

Liz’s work investigates and celebrates the language of flowers and their meaning. Often incorporating kinetic elements, her work creates a symbiotic relationship between it and the wearer.

Flowers are more than objects of beauty and admiration; they are objects of rhetoric and speak their feelings with far more force and tenderness than words can describe. In Victorian times, flowers were used to send messages. From the simple ‘Forget Me Not,’ whose name denotes its meaning, to the Asphodel lily, which symbolizes ‘remembered beyond the grave,’ a bouquet can convey a wide array of intentions and meanings that are relatable across cultures and genders.

Flowers mark occasions in life, both joyous and melancholic. They have an immediate impact on our happiness, calmness, intimacy and wellbeing. They awaken our inner garden of emotions as we experience them in the wild or as we navigate interior spaces. Their impermanence is a reminder to be attentive and to take in life’s moments of beauty and stillness.
