The Pollock collection was influenced by the abstract work of the artist, Jackson Pollock. The influence was provoked by a visit to the late artist’s studio in the Hamptons. The resonance of Pollock’s process is similar to my own; both direct and spontaneous, triggering a translation of movement from wax to metal.

Artist bio:
Jim Cotter is a metalsmith who lives and works in the Vail Valley of Colorado. Cotter is also known for his playful mindset regarding art and life. His sculptures are influenced by the surrounding environment and incorporate unusual and natural materials. His textures are unmatched and impossible to recreate.
Jim handcrafts each piece of work, from start to finish in his Minturn, Colorado Studio. Specializing in the lost wax casting process Cotter’s designs are full of movement, fluidity and texture.

When Jim Cotter started designing jewelry the 60’s, he decided that he would not only make jewelry, he would make art jewelry. The designs are often influenced by historical references, Jim’s own upbringing, and the natural world. These influences have assisted Cotter in cultivating his own style that is unlike any other.
Cotter is known as a maverick and pioneer in using alternative materials, saying, “Many of my designs incorporate precious gems and fine metals, but I have always & always will, experiment with many non-traditional materials”. He has held classes and workshops across the globe; Haystack Mountain Collage, Penland School of Craft and Anderson Ranch Arts Center, to name a few. His work can be found in collections like Herman Miller, the Georgia Museum of Art, The Ornamental Metals Museum and the Korean Craft Museum.
