Alejandro Palencia
Ammonite Brooch
Ammonite Brooch
The Ammonite Brooch is part of the Fractals collection. Ammonites were sea dwelling moluscs whose shell turned to stone when they died. Alejandro found inspiration in the town Villa de Leyva, Colombia which has a rich history in paleontology. Scientists have discovered dinsosaur and ammonite fossils from the area, which was once an ocean (now a mountainous desert). The ammonite fossils, which are dated to be 66 million years old can be found throughout the town and are incorporated into the natural architecture of buildings, structures and the cobblestone streets. The wrought iron ammonite designs that adorns and covers windows throughout the small town inspired Alejandro to create this brooch, finished with a Colombian Emerald.
