Artist Statement

My latest collection is a poignant reflection on loss, memory, and revival, inspired by a garden that was erased overnight by the government last year. The remnants of that garden—branches and soil—left a lasting impression on me. During a recent visit to the site, I collected soil and created shapes reminiscent of the tree branches, casting and reproducing them hundreds of times. These pieces are high-fired and glazed in blue, drawing inspiration from the iconic blue glazes of the Safavid period in Iran. Traditionally, gardens are recognized by their green and natural colors, but by using the familiar blue of the Safavid period, I aim to offer a new perspective on their revival.

While exploring the history of Iranian gardens, I discovered the metal studs used on garden doors. This inspired me to create a series of jewelry pieces that blend metal and ceramic, reflecting Iran's rich visual culture. Soil holds great significance in Iranian traditions, symbolizing purity and fertility. During my work with clay and glaze, a spring rain began to fall, symbolizing the essential role of water in reviving a garden. I incorporated pearls from Persian Gulf oysters and upcycled gemstones collected from goldsmiths who discarded them as they refined second-hand gold accessories. The gemstones, once deemed worthless, were repurposed in my designs as a tribute to water and clay.

I chose to create earrings to symbolize the continuous flow of water and the act of revival. The earrings, resembling droplets, capture the essence of renewal and transformation, turning discarded materials into meaningful, wearable art.
