I am Maribel Luque, based and work in Barcelona, Spain.

I studied 4 years at the Francesca Bonnemaison art school ( Barcelona ). During that time I was immersed in abstraction until my art did not reflect any recognizable form. We are trained from a young age to recognize shapes, it is the first thing we are taught in kindergarten, so the path to abstraction begins by unlearning what we have learned. I'm still trying. Although it may seem paradoxical, what I try with my work is not to have clear images in my mind so that each work can be admired by different people and they can see their own story. Abstraction is the best way for that, by not recognizing shapes, your other senses are activated and can take you to totally different places than mine.

I always work in large format because it is easier to see the overall picture, but two years ago I wanted to expand my art beyond paintings and I started testing how I could transfer my art from large paintings to smaller pieces, as wearable art, which led me to wanting to turn them into jewelry. I got these pieces that reflect exactly the same as my art, but in small doses.

My creative process is the same process I use for my paintings. I create every piece with just acrylic paints and some final layers of resin, making them ultralight and hard to break. It's all completely handmade from start to finish. Like painting one of my pictures.

All pieces are totally different , pieces that I cannot reproduce twice, even if I want to, because I like to let the paint act in an unpredictable way, pieces where you can find your own universe in each one.

I like to create jewelry that is always different and that each person who buys it knows for sure that they will not walk down the street and see everyone else wearing it. But that everyone will look at you because what you are wearing is unique and exclusive.
