The “Seed” collection is an investigation into computer-aided design and 3D printing, exploring the potential of generative design in jewelry.

Using Rhino 3D and Grasshopper software, I programmed a plug-in capable of generating unique design variations from a single seed number. This method produces complex shapes and patterns that would be difficult, if not impossible, to achieve using traditional methods alone.

Each pair of earrings in the “Seed” collection is generated from the seed number that serves as the piece’s title, making for millions of possible variations. The orientation, materials, and shapes are all determined by the seed number, which manipulates a number of parameters to generate a 3D file that I then print, cast, assemble, and finish.

By integrating digital design with traditional techniques such as casting and stone setting, I aim to create pieces that are not only aesthetically pleasing, but also technically impressive.
My practice is a testament to the potential of new technologies to challenge boundaries and expand the realm of possibility in jewelry-making.

Artist bio:
Harry Warshaw is a Montreal-based jewelry designer. He first discovered his passion while working with his mother, a talented jeweler, before studying at the École de joaillerie de Montréal.
