My work captures the sense of wonder that I feel when observing the world, and creates a
place for the viewer to step into that wonder with me.Through my work I argue that the world
gets more interesting as you take the time to look closely. Often mundane seeming subjects can
be incredible when you take the time to sit with them and learn from them. A clump of moss
contains an entire ecosystem that you can watch unfold under magnification. The underside of a
duckweed leaf is textured in fascinating, purple-hued geometric forms. Bringing forms like these
into jewelry allows them to be accessed and interacted with. I also take large, industrial
structures and make them small to bring otherwise untouchable form into the realm of playful,
interactive art. The geometric forms that make up these structures overlap, interact, and change
as you look at them from a variety of angles.

Artist bio:
Gideon Hermann is a MFA candidate at Pennsylvania Western University, Edinboro. They received their Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a focus in Jewelry and Metalsmithing and a Digital Fabrication and Design Certificate at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in May 2021. They had a ring featured in Battle of the Rings earlier this year.
