Artist Statement

“Pavement marks” explores the unexpected beauty in the overlooked and often repelled. These earrings are inspired by the organic shapes of dog pee I encountered on city streets. In an urban landscape where nature is tightly controlled, these liquid patterns emerge as a reminder that the natural world still finds its way into even the most artificial environments. Pavement stains, placed like organic adornments by dogs—man’s best friend—decorate the tapestry of our urban landscape, creating the unnoticed patterns of the city.

I was captivated by these shapes—something we usually avoid or find disgusting—and sought to transform them into wearable art that challenges perceptions and provokes thought. By elevating something mundane and distasteful into a conversation piece, I aim to highlight how beauty and intrigue can be found in even the most unexpected places.
Each element of the earrings has been meticulously sawn out by hand, with a silver plate backing reminiscent of the grey tones of concrete and a brass sheet soldered on top. The shapes are highlighted with polished silver elements that stand out against the matte brass. This contrast between the shiny silver and brass mimics the look of wetness, reflecting the interplay between natural forms and the patterns of the urban environment.

Artist bio:
Eni is an Albanian-Austrian jeweller, currently living in London and Vienna. With over 8 years of experience as a goldsmith they are mainly self taught and have deepened their craft knowledge through courses at the goldsmith's centre in London. They run their own commercial jewellery business, with a focus on the use of botanicals as talismans and amulets.
While nature remains a central inspiration, they have recently begun to shift towards jewellery as a form of artistic expression. Through their work, they aim to foster dialogue and conversation, and to encourage viewers to engage with things we often overlook or take for granted.
