My practice moves between object, body, and memory. The things I make can be worn, held, or simply exist as quiet vessels for stories. I shape my narrative by putting newfleshinto old forms—a chair woven from fiber holding the depth of touch, an iron bedpost anchoring memory, wax buds caught just before blooming.
Objects, for me, are riverbeds for memories — solid ground for what is otherwiseaselusive as mist. Like the fog drifting over the river in my hometown of Chongqing, memory reveals itself only when we catch a glimpse of the delicate traces left by our owntouch, ownership, or presence: a chipped sculpture, a patched cloth, a stone wornsmooth by years of handling. Through making, I trace how objects and the self shapeone another. The things I make are like scattered slurry, slowly settling into the voids of remembrance until they become solid and whole again.
My works flow through me like a river —shaping and being shaped. In the end, theyremain what they have always been: simply things that carry my narrative.

Artist Bio:
Ziqi Yuan is a Chinese artist based in Detroit, U.S., working across metal, fiber andceramics. Her practice explores the tension between permanence and fragility, oftendrawing from personal memories, bodily sensations, and the quiet traces of daily life. With a background in jewelry and metalsmithing, she creates objects, jewelry andinstallations that carry her narrative. Through repetition and subtle transformation, her work becomes a form of quiet record-keeping—of time, care, and disappearance. Ziqi holds an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art and a BA in Jewelry Design fromChinaUniversity of Geosciences.
